Views sought on Whitehaven street businesses

People are being asked whether a restriction on the types of businesses allowed to operate on a Whitehaven street should be relaxed.

Copeland Borough Council is considering ways of reducing the number of vacant units on King Street in Whitehaven.

One proposal is to allow the establishment of businesses such as estate agents, banks and restaurants.

These were restricted under earlier plans aimed at protecting the character of the street.

The council said it would resist any proposals to introduce public houses or hot food takeaways.

People have until 8 July to comment.
