Woman attempts to spike cheating husband's porridge

A woman has pleaded guilty to lacing her husband's body-building powder with laxatives after he told her he had been having an affair.

Lynn Kelly, of Maple Grove, Whitehaven, emptied 12 sachets of powder into her husband John's protein mixture.

Before emptying it onto his daily porridge, John, 58, became suspicious that it "didn't smell right".

Kelly, 54, was given a 12-month conditional discharge at Carlisle Crown Court on Monday.

The court heard she hoped the powder would make him ill when he was out with his new girlfriend.

Kelly pleaded guilty to administering a noxious substance with intent to injure, aggrieve or annoy.

On sentencing, Judge Barbara Forrester said she accepted that she had not meant to do him any "serious harm".
