Runners' tribute to Cumbria flood death Pc Bill Barker

Hundreds of runners brave the drizzly weather to honour Pc Barker

Hundreds of runners are braving the drizzly weather and taking part in a run in memory of a police officer killed in the Cumbria floods.

Pc Bill Barker, 44, an officer for 25 years, was directing traffic away from Northside Bridge, Workington, when it collapsed on 20 November.

In his memory runners are doing the 10-mile West Cumbrian Run from Cockermouth to Workington on Sunday.

They are raising cash for his favourite charity, The Great North Air Ambulance.

Cumbria Police's Chief Constable Craig Mackey is taking part in the event.

At the time of his death, Pc Barker was described by the then prime minister, Gordon Brown, as a "heroic, very brave man who died trying to save the lives of others".
