Man charged over 1996 Coventry pub shooting

A man has been charged with a pub shooting 18 years ago.

Anthony Stephens, formerly of Cranberry Road, Tile Cross, Birmingham, was arrested as he stepped off a plane from Ireland at Birmingham Airport on 22 November last year.

The 46-year-old has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting at Coventry pub The Plough on 20 October, 1996.

A 32-year-old staff member was left fighting for his life afterwards.

The injured man was shot in the face but he made what doctors described as a "miraculous" recovery and survived.

Mr Stephens is due to appear at Coventry Magistrates' Court later.
