Murder arrest after Coventry apartment balcony fall

Cordon at Paradise House on Eden Street Police have cordoned off an area outside Paradise House in Eden Street

A 39-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man fell from an eighth-floor apartment balcony in Coventry.

A passer-by reported a person lying on the ground outside the flats on Eden Street, in Foleshill, at about 23:30 GMT on Wednesday.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, was taken to hospital and died shortly after midnight.

Police said the suspect handed himself in at a police station earlier.

Det Insp Derek Packham, from West Midlands Police, said: "I want to reassure people that this is being treated as an isolated incident and we now have a named suspect in custody.

"We are still speaking to witnesses at the scene this morning and I am keen to hear from anyone in the area who saw anything which may help us with our investigation.

"Perhaps you saw the man drop from the balcony or heard a disturbance in the moments before or after he fell - please speak to officers at the scene or give us a call."
