Girl, five, dies after car hits building in Hillfields

A five-year-old girl has died after the car she was in crashed into a building in Coventry.

The girl was among four family members in a Honda Civic which hit the side of a building in Hillfields just before 02:30 GMT.

She was taken to hospital with internal injuries but was pronounced dead at about 05:00, police said.

The girl's mother suffered a broken arm and a man and a teenage boy sustained minor injuries.

West Midlands Police said the the boy and the man are believed to be the girl's brother and father.

The crash happened at the junction of King William Street and Canterbury Street.

The junction was cordoned off as crash investigators examined the scene.

The road has now reopened but the damaged building remains sealed off ahead of a structural assessment.

Police appealed for witnesses or anyone who saw the car in King William Street before the crash to contact them.
