Police investigating the disappearance of a Coventry mother last seen 21 years ago have released a man arrested in connection with the case.

Nicola Payne, 18, went missing from the Wood End area in December 1991.

Police said a 45-year-old arrested in June on suspicion of conspiring to prevent the lawful burial of a body has been released without charge.

Det Insp Martin Slevin said officers were following up lines of inquiry after a recent appeal for information.

Police cordoned off an area off Purcell Road in Coventry on 19 June.

It is understood no remains were found during the search which involved specially-trained dogs and ground X-ray equipment.

No charges

A 74 year-old man was arrested along with the 45-year-old. Police said he was released without charge while the 45-year-old man was bailed.

Miss Payne was last seen near to the Black Pad in Wood End on 14 December 1991. She had a six-month old son.

In 2007, a man was arrested in connection with her disappearance and released on bail.

No-one has been charged in connection with the case.

Mr Slevin said: "We hope that anyone who has any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem and who has not come forward, will do so now."
