A public inquiry has opened after plans were rejected to build more than 300 homes in north Warwickshire.

An application to build the properties on green space in Weddington was narrowly rejected by Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council last year.

At a planning committee in August six councillors voted against the plans, while five backed the scheme.

An inquiry was set up after an appeal was lodged by developers Hallam Land Management.

The hearing at Nuneaton Town Hall is expected to last four days.

Developers propose building a housing estate on fields between Church Lane and the Weddington Walk.

Campaign group Save Weddington: Oppose the Residential Development (SWORD) said it would be opposing the appeal alongside Nuneaton Friends of the Earth.
