Free swimming extended in Warwick

Free swimming for the over-60s and under-16s is being extended in part of Warwickshire, after the government decided to stop it in England.

Warwick District Council has agreed to extend the scheme until 31 March 2011, the county council said. It had been due to come to an end this month.

St Nicholas Park Leisure Centre, Abbey Fields Swimming Pool and Newbold Comyn Leisure Centre are the sites involved.

People need to register for a £2 card to take part in the scheme.

Free swims are available at all public or general sessions, but Aqua aerobics-based classes, children's swimming lessons and Splosh fun sessions are not covered.

In June it was announced that free swimming for under-16s and over-60s in England would be axed from the end of July as part of government cuts.
