Tributes have been paid to a nurse who was killed in a crash in Cornwall as she drove home from work.

Sasha Stewart died in the early hours of Friday when her car overturned and crashed on the A39 near Bude.

North Devon District Hospital said it was shocked and saddened at the death of the nurse, who was in her 20s and from Bude.

"Her absence has left an irreplaceable hole in our ward family," ward manager Andrea Bell said.

Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust said she was a "true advocate" of the nursing profession and it extended its deepest condolences to her family.

Ms Bell said Ms Stewart was "compassionate, caring and kind to all she came into contact with" and a very much loved member of the nursing team, who would be sorely missed.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, which closed the road between Kilkhampton in Cornwall and Bideford in Devon for several hours.
