Suspect Police issued a CCTV picture of the suspect

A man armed with a knife and a meat cleaver has robbed a shop in north Cornwall, police said.

A female shop assistant was threatened during the raid, at 14:00 GMT on Wednesday at the Candy Shop in Bude.

The man, described as being in his 20s or 30s, escaped with the contents of the till from the shop in Belle Vue.

Devon and Cornwall Police said the man was of slim build, wearing a black jacket and light coloured trousers.

Acting Det Insp Sharon Donald said: "It's a very serious offence. The woman was severely shaken and we are providing support for her.

"This is an isolated incident, we haven't had any similar incidents reported to us, but we are asking the public to be vigilant."
