Rowers in sea after boat collision at Cornish championship

15 September 2013 Last updated at 17:35 BST

A crew of gig rowers had to be rescued from the sea after their boat capsized following a collision during a championship in Cornwall.

The Cadgwith gig collided with another team while taking part in the Men's County Championships in Newquay on Saturday.

Two inshore lifeboats were launched but support boats brought the crew to shore. No-one was injured.

The collision has been described by organisers as a "freak accident".

The Marine Accident Investigation Branch said it was aware of the incident but an inquiry has not been launched.
