ShelterBox appoints new chief executive Alison Wallace

Alison Wallace said she was "delighted" to join the charity on "the next stage of its growth"

International aid charity ShelterBox has appointed a new chief executive after its former leader was removed in a row over spending.

The Cornwall-based charity has appointed Alison Wallace, former director of international fundraising at Amnesty International.

An employment tribunal is to take place shortly regarding the dismissal of former chief executive Tom Henderson.

He has denied allegations of gross misconduct.

New Zealander Ms Wallace, who spent seven years at Amnesty International, said: "I am delighted to be given this opportunity to lead ShelterBox and its dedicated team of staff and volunteers on the next stage of its growth, and to bring shelter, warmth and dignity to more people, more quickly in times of crisis."

She will start work on 15 April, running an organisation which employs 40 people and distributed nearly £16m of aid last year.

The charity said it would "not be proper" for it or Ms Wallace to comment on the forthcoming tribunal into Mr Henderson's removal.
