Police investigating a stabbing in Newquay have named a man they would like to speak to.

Officers are keen to trace John Bellman, 57, in connection with the incident in the Mount Wise area at about 12:30 GMT on Monday.

A 48-year-old man from St Austell remains seriously ill in Derriford Hospital with chest wounds.

Devon and Cornwall police have said Mr Bellman is "not dangerous but shouldn't be approached".

A spokesperson said: "Although we do not believe that Mr Bellman represents a threat to other members of the public I would ask that if he is seen then to exercise caution not to approach him and report this sighting to the police."

The 48-year-old stabbing victim was airlifted to Derriford hospital after walking into the Cornish resort's hospital with serious injuries, the force said.

Anyone with any information should call Devon and Cornwall police on 101.
