Man stabbed in Newquay airlifted to hospital

A man has been airlifted to hospital after being stabbed in Newquay, Devon and Cornwall Police have said.

The 48-year-old walked into the Cornish resort's hospital "after suffering serious injuries", the force said.

He is believed to have been stabbed in the Mount Wise area at about 12:30 GMT on Monday but police have not released any more details.

The man, from St Austell, is in a serious but stable condition in Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.

Insp Dave Meredith said: "Knife crime is exceptionally rare in Newquay. I can't remember a similar incident like this.

"We are doing everything we can to investigate it."
