Friends of Tina Nash to run London Marathon

Tina Nash has told friends she would like to run the London Marathon

Friends of a woman from Cornwall who was blinded by her former partner are running the London Marathon in her honour.

Mother-of-two Tina Nash, 31, was attacked at her house in Hayle in April 2011 by Shane Jenkin, 33, who was jailed for life.

Gary Williams is leading Team Tina, which will be raising money for the Royal National Institute for the Blind.

He said friends had been "devastated" by the gouging attack on Ms Nash.

'Really upset'

He will be running the London Marathon with Dylan Courtney, Sam Oxley and Stefan Osborne, all from Penzance, on 21 April.

Mr Williams said: "We all felt really upset about what happened and felt we really needed to do something.

"The London Marathon gives us an opportunity to do so."

He said Ms Nash was supporting their run and had wanted to run herself.

"I'm sure that can be arranged in the future," he said, adding that she was maintaining a positive attitude.

"It is not going to get her down. She wants to go forward.

"Every day life is a challenge for her. But she doesn't let it get her down."

Jenkin, of Sea Lane, Hayle, was jailed in May with a minimum term of six years after he admitted causing Ms Nash grievous bodily harm. He has applied for leave to appeal.
