Cornwall sees drop in unemployment of 500

The number of people out of work and claiming benefits in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly has fallen by more than 500 since May, new figures revealed.

The data from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) showed that, in July, 8,666 people were out of work, down 525 from 9,191 two months before.

The figure equates to about 2.6% of the county's workforce, a decrease from 2.8% in May.

The national claimant count was 3.9%, the ONS said.
