New Dean of Truro is appointed

The Venerable Roger Bush said he saw his job as being an ambassador for the cathedral

The Archdeacon of Cornwall is to be appointed the new Dean of Truro.

The Venerable Roger Bush will be officially installed in his post at a special service in Truro Cathedral on 22 September, the diocese said.

The 55-year-old Norfolk-born farmer's son has lived and worked in the county for 18 years.

He takes over the post from the Very Reverend Dr Christopher Hardwick and said he was "looking forward" to his new role.

The Bishop of Truro, the Right Reverend Tim Thornton, said he was "very pleased" that the archdeacon was becoming Dean of Truro.

'Immense privilege'

He said: "Roger is a good colleague who I know will do a very good job.

"He has an important task to undertake in leading the work of the cathedral, and also in continuing to fulfil the roles he has across the diocese, most importantly as chairman of the board of education."

Archdeacon Bush said his appointment was an "immense privilege".

He said: "I have been very fortunate in being involved in the life of the cathedral in some way or another for many years.

"To have the opportunity to lead the cathedral community is a wonderful opportunity for me, to which I am greatly looking forward."

He said that being brought up as the son of a farmer meant the interests of the farming community were especially dear to his heart.

Archdeacon Bush is married to Lois, and has two grown-up children, Hannah and Tom.

His added that his interests included reading, classical music and singing what he described as "strangulated tenor" in a choir.
