The president of Surf Life Saving Australia has visited Bude ahead of the Cornish club's 60th anniversary.

Graham Ford met members of Bude Surf Life Saving Club, which is believed to be the first club established in the UK, at Crooklets Beach.

The club was started by Allen Kennedy in 1952 after he declared "what a surf and a place for surfing".

As part of the day, historic and modern surf life saving techniques were demonstrated.
