Peter Oates murder accused appears in court

A sheltered housing resident has appeared in court, accused of murdering a fellow tenant in Cornwall.

Somes McFarland is accused of killing Peter Oakes, 51, last month at the housing in Fore Street, Pool, near Redruth, when both men lived there.

Mr McFarland, 27, of Seaview Terrace, Redruth, entered no plea during the hearing at Exeter Crown Court.

He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Truro Crown Court on 26 July.

The body of Mr Oates was found on Sunday 25 March.
