Senior police help clean up Camborne housing estate

Senior police officers in Cornwall have been helping to clean up a housing estate.

Six officers - including the county commander for Devon and Cornwall Police, Ch Supt Chris Boarland - carried out the work while off duty.

They joined volunteers and councillors to tackle fly-tipping and litter.

Ch Supt Boarland said it was important to be seen supporting people in the area and helping to improve the community's quality of life.

He said: "We've got out of our offices and into the community, listening to concerns that people really have, and being seen to support them.

"The choice of location was down to Volunteer Cornwall. I wanted somewhere we could make a difference and do some good work and meet people.

"It's proved to be worthwhile so far."

Supt Julie Whitmarsh added: "If we can help clear up, it helps give a sense of pride to the community, and it helps bring back a sense of social responsibility."
