Cornwall's disaster aid charity ShelterBox is in line for a top national award.

It is one of three charities chosen as Charity of the Year finalists in the JustGiving 2011 awards.

ShelterBox was founded by Rotarian Tom Henderson and adopted by the Helston-Lizard Rotary club in 2000.

It sends boxes of aid to people made homeless by natural or man-made disasters across the world.

Last year the charity sent aid to numerous countries, including flood victims in Sri Lanka, tsunami victims in Indonesia and landslide victims in Mexico.

Each box contains a 10-person tent and survival equipment, including sleeping bags, pots and stove, water purifying tablets and a basic tool kit.

The other two finalists are organ transplant charity Live Life Then Give Life and the Sick Children's Trust.

JustGiving is a secure fundraising website set up for charities in 2000.
