A man has been charged with murder after a two-year-old girl died.

Dean Harris, 19, of Yaxley, Cambridgeshire, will appear before Peterborough Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

A 28-year-old woman, believed to be the girl's mother, was also arrested and has been released on police bail.

The girl was taken to Peterborough City Hospital with serious injuries at 11:00 GMT on Thursday and died shortly before 13:00 GMT, Cambridgeshire Police said.

Mr Harris is understood to be the mother's partner and it is believed the couple took the girl to hospital themselves.

The results of a post-mortem examination are expected later.
