Peterborough man in court on baby murder charge

A Cambridgeshire man has appeared in court charged with murdering a baby girl.

Two-month-old Aukse Medvedevaite arrived at Peterborough City Hospital on Thursday night and was confirmed dead an hour later, police said.

Aurimas Medvedevas, of Clifton Avenue, Peterborough, was remanded in custody at the city's magistrates' court to attend Cambridge Crown Court this week.

A post-mortem examination revealed Aukse died of head injuries.

Cambridgeshire Police said they were contacted by the hospital after reports of a "sudden death".

Mr Medvedevas, who police said was the partner of the baby's mother, was arrested while at the hospital.
