Rapist Phillip Evans jailed after Peterborough hostel attack

Phillip Evans Phillip Evans carried out a "horrific" attack on the woman

A man who raped a woman while her children slept in the same room, has been jailed for five years.

Phillip Evans, 33, from Hallfields Lane, Peterborough, attacked the woman after following her back to a hostel in the city on 26 December.

The victim told police she had felt unable to call for help for fear of her children seeing what was happening.

Evans denied rape but was jailed following a trial at Peterborough Crown Court earlier.

After she had been raped, the victim called her boyfriend and they then contacted police.

Det Con Louise Spinks, from Cambridgeshire Police, said: "This was a horrific attack where Evans raped his victim while her young children were sleeping nearby.

"Evans' actions on the night show he is clearly a danger to women and we are pleased he has been brought to justice."

He was sentenced to an additional six months in jail after admitting two counts of criminal damage and assault during a separate incident earlier the same night.
