Fire expected to burn for several days at Boardcraft

A blaze at a wood products firm's warehouse that started on Monday is expected to burn for several more days.

Crews called to Boardcraft, on Howard Road, Eaton Socon, Cambridgeshire, found a deep seated fire.

A spokeswoman said the heart of the fire was under stacks of laminated boards that were shielding the flames.

Pouring water on the stacks is preventing a high temperature burn so the fire, which was under control, was being left, she said.

The fire service were considering putting in machinery to break up the 14ft (4m) high stacks of laminated boards.

However, a structural engineer advised against this on safety grounds as the warehouse could collapse, she said.
