Tyler Whelan Tyler Whelan had blunt trauma injuries to his head

A 27-year-old Peterborough woman has been jailed for four years for causing or allowing the death of her five-year-old son.

Stephanie Whelan's partner, Elvis Lee, kicked and bit Tyler Whelan who died in hospital in March 2011 after collapsing at his home in Sheepwalk, Paston.

Lee, 34, was found guilty of murder in May and jailed for life.

Whelan was sentenced at Reading Crown Court and told she would serve a minimum of two years.

During the trial, Cambridge Crown Court heard Tyler suffered "blunt force trauma" to the head and abdomen.

His death followed three earlier admissions to hospital.
