Arrest after attack in Huntingdon graveyard

A 35-year-old man is in hospital with serious head injuries after being attacked in a Cambridgeshire graveyard.

Police were called to the grounds of St Mary's Church, Huntingdon, at 02:00 BST on Sunday and found the unconscious man.

He was taken to Hinchingbrooke Hospital where he is said to be in a serious but stable condition.

A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and has been released on bail.

He must return to Huntingdon police station on Wednesday.

Det Con Suzanne Pickard, of Cambridgeshire Police, said: "The victim suffered very serious injuries and is still in hospital.

"The area was busy at the time and I would urge anyone with information to contact police."
