Pair remanded over death of boy, five, in Peterborough

Two people charged over the death of a five-year-old boy in Peterborough have been remanded in custody.

The boy, Tyler Whelan, had been hit on the head and in the stomach, and had bite marks on his calf, a court heard.

Stephanie Whelan, 26, and partner Elvis Lee, 33, appeared at Peterborough Magistrates' Court charged with causing or allowing the death of a child.

A post-mortem examination found Tyler had suffered "blunt trauma" and had a split bowel and a bleeding head.

The pair will appear again at Peterborough Crown Court on 21 March.

The couple were arrested on Friday 11 March after Tyler was found dead at his home on the Monday before.
