Cambridgeshire County Council faces protest over cuts

A demonstration is being held outside the headquarters of Cambridgeshire County Council ahead of a meeting about cutting services by £161m.

The Conservative-controlled authority said it needs to cut 450 posts in the next financial year.

It has a funding gap of £50m, increasing to £161m over five years, after a drop in its government grant.

Planned savings include £1m to disability services for children and a £3m reduction in school transport.

A meeting of the county council is now under way at Shire Hall.

A protester was ejected from the public gallery after trying to heckle the councillors.

Earlier two people were arrested and then released by police after disrupting the meeting.
