Man dies as car hits tree on A370 Long Ashton bypass

A 55-year-old man died when the car he was driving hit a tree, then a road sign, before landing on its roof.

The accident happened on the Bristol-bound carriageway of the A370 Long Ashton bypass at 22:35 BST on Thursday.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said the man, who lived in the Bristol area, died at the scene.

The A370, one of the main commuter routes into the city, re-opened just before 08:00 BST on Friday.
