Bristol's Thekla music venue to sail off for revamp

The Thekla The Thelka was brought to Bristol in the early 80s

One of Bristol's long-running music venues is to due to sail off for refurbishment.

The Thekla, which is docked by The Grove, near Bristol Bridge, has been a fixture in the harbour for more than 30 years.

It will be taken into dry dock to undergo a transformation over the next six weeks.

It is hoped the venue will be back in operation "by mid-September", said a spokesman.

The Theklas's website said the former cargo ship was originally brought to Bristol as the Old Profanity Showboat in the early 80s which ran theatre, music and poetry events
