Arrest after woman dies in Bristol care home

Oaktree House in Yate Police were called to the Yate care home on Wednesday

A man has been arrested after an elderly woman died "suddenly" at a care home near Bristol.

Police were called to Oaktree House on Lark Rise, Yate, on Wednesday after an 87-year-old woman was found dead.

Officers say they arrested a 33-year-old man, who is not an employee, on suspicion of murder that afternoon. He is currently being questioned.

A spokeswoman for Oaktree House said it was supporting the family during this "deeply distressing time".

According to the care home, the elderly resident was "found dead in her room".

'Tragic isolated incident'

"In line with our normal procedures in the event of a sudden death, the home manager immediately contacted the police and relevant authorities," the spokeswoman said.

"It would be inappropriate for us to comment whilst the police investigation is on-going."

Avon and Somerset Police said the victim's family had been informed and were being supported by specially-trained officers.

"This is a tragic but isolated incident," said Det Insp Neil Meade.

"We have one man in custody and we're not currently looking for anyone else."
