Plans for a new primary school in inner-city Bristol for 420 pupils have been unveiled by the city council.

The school will be in Avonvale Road in the Lawrence Hill ward where there are currently empty offices.

The council said it aims to be ready for the first 60 reception-age pupils in September 2014, and it will complete construction the following year.

Plans for the new school - to be run as an academy - are due to go out to public consultation next year.

Bristol City Council is working with the Department for Education to appoint a sponsor to run the school.

The name of the sponsor will be announced in mid-December.

In September, the council announced plans for another new primary school on the site of the former City of Bristol College in Marksbury Road, Windmill Hill.

It is expected to open in September 2014.

A third primary school will be at the former Fairfield High School site on Fairlawn Road in Horfield and will open a year later.
