A man has been arrested by detectives investigating an arson attack where four people had to escape from a burning house in Filton, near Bristol.

The man from Bristol was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life, police said.

He was later released on bail while police investigations continue.

Police said a new petrol can was found near the address, which they believe was used to carry fuel. The can is undergoing forensic tests.

"This petrol can is an important line of inquiry for us," said Detective Inspector Jill Kells.

"We are asking for help from people who may remember selling a petrol can like this recently, saw someone filling one up at a petrol station or being carried in Filton that night."
