Controlled explosion on object in South Gloucestershire

A man has been arrested following a controlled explosion of a suspicious item in South Gloucestershire.

About 80 homes were evacuated on Saturday after police were called to a property in Kenmoor Close, Warmley.

The Army's Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) attended the incident, and carried out a controlled explosion at nearby Barrs Court Park.

The man was arrested in Somerset on Sunday and was being questioned by officers from Avon and Somerset police.

Avon and Somerset Police said a resident had reported suspicious items at the property at about 15:50 BST., and a number of other items were taken away for further examination.

Police said there was a continued police presence in the area on Sunday as they continued their investigation.

Following the evacuation residents were allowed back into their homes at 20:50 BST, police said.
