Bristol Mayor George Ferguson chooses new cabinet

Bristol's mayor George Ferguson has finalised his new cross-party cabinet.

Labour councillor Mark Bradshaw will take on transport and planning and fellow party member Brenda Massey is in charge of education.

They join the Green Party's Gus Hoyt, who heads up neighbourhoods and the environment, and Conservative Geoff Gollop, who will handle finance.

Liberal Democrats Barbara Janke and Simon Cooke will run health and leisure services respectively.

Mr Ferguson said the new four-party cabinet "marks a new chapter in Bristol's governance".

"It's a good day for the city when an independent mayor can be supported by councillors of four parties, all working together for the good of the people of Bristol," he added.
