South Gloucestershire's youth service changes a 'muddle'

The handling of major changes to South Gloucestershire Council's youth centres has been described as a "muddle" by a councillor.

Conservative Rob Jones claims it is still unclear which youth centres will remain open and which will close following budget cuts.

Funding for the council's youth service has been reduced by £889,000 and some centres are seeking alternative funds.

The council has agreed to carry out a review into how it made the changes.

'Lot of confusion'

According to Mr Jones there is a "real concern and worry with parents and lack of information".

"There's been an awful lot of confusion, under the current system," he said.

"And it's just not clear which centre's are closing, when they're closing - it's all a muddle."

In a statement South Gloucestershire Council said: "This work was part of a complex series of projects and in line with standard good practice we will be carrying out a review to identify any lessons to be learned.

"We will report back to elected members on the outcomes of the review in due course."
