CWU and Royal Mail meet at Acas over Bristol depot dispute

The Communication Workers Union (CWU) and Royal Mail are due to meet at conciliation service Acas later in a bid to resolve a dispute at a south Bristol delivery office.

Workers at the Bedminster depot on Mead Way have held a series of strikes because, they say, they are being asked to do more work with fewer people.

Talks between the CWU and Royal Mail have so far proven unsuccessful.

The CWU said if the dispute was not resolved there would be more strikes.

Bristol CWU area official David Wilshire said he was "optimistic" there would be an agreement at Acas, but said "in the absence of Royal Mail taking a responsible position" there would be further industrial action in the "not-too-distant future".

About 100 people work at the depot which serves properties in the BS4 (Knowle) and BS14 (Hengrove) postcode areas.

In a previous statement, Royal Mail said: "It is obviously better for everyone involved if talks can continue without the threat of industrial action."
