A park and ride scheme on the A4174 Ring Road on the outskirts of Bristol has been granted planning permission.

The 264 space park will be situated off Rosary Roundabout opposite Sainsbury's Emersons Green store.

It forms part of the new Emersons Green East development, which will include 2,500 new homes and three schools.

As part of the planning conditions, the developers have agreed to make contributions towards improving local infrastructure.

South Gloucestershire Council's Colin Hunt said: "It's good news that after many years of campaigning we have finally reached the stage where planning permission has been granted.

"The idea is to attract commuters travelling along the Ring Road towards the M32 to use this new park and ride so we can reduce traffic congestion further along the A4174 and improve people's journey times."
