Bristol General Hospital flats plan rejected
The council said there was not enough affordable housing at the site
Plans to convert the former Bristol General Hospital building into flats have been rejected by the city council.
City & Country Group wanted to convert the grade II listed site in Guinea Lane into 190 flats and 10 commercial units.
The council wanted more than the £120,000 the firm had offered in community contributions but City & Country said it could not afford it.
The scheme was rejected on Wednesday, with councillors also citing a lack of affordable housing as a problem.
The original hospital opened in 1832 but closed in 2011 when it was sold for £6m.
City & Country said it was planning to appeal against the council's decision.
