An investigation into whether a third Costa coffee shop in north Bristol has opened without the correct planning permission has been launched.

Bristol City Council said it was investigating after receiving a complaint about the opening of the cafe in Westbury-on-Trym.

The former shoe shop, on Westbury Hill, is understood to be run by franchisee South West Coffee Ltd.

Two other Costas in Bristol have opened without correct planning permission.

Costa branches on Whiteladies Road and Gloucester Road, which opened in November, have both been served with enforcement orders.

Both cafes are operated by South West Coffee Ltd, which is run by Bristol businessman Stuart Montgomery.

Mr Montgomery declined to comment.

Costa Coffee has yet to respond to a request for comment.
