Chief executive chosen for North Bristol NHS Trust

A new chief executive has been chosen to lead North Bristol NHS Trust.

Ian Cumming, who is currently National Director for Quality at the Department of Health, takes over the position from Ruth Brunt who steps down next April.

He was previously Chief Executive of the West Midlands Strategic Health Authority and University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust.

Mrs Brunt joined the in 2004 as director of nursing. She was promoted to chief executive 18 months ago.

North Bristol NHS Trust operates Frenchay and Southmead hospitals and provides community healthcare to the residents of Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. It also specialises in neurosciences, plastics, paediatric burns, orthopaedics and renal care - employing more than 9,000 staff.
