The head of mechanical engineering at the University of Bath, Professor Tony Miles, has said that the university put this year's winner of The Apprentice on the "road to success".

Tom Pellereau gained a first-class honours degree in innovation and engineering design in the city in 2002.

The 31-year-old inventor has now secured £250,000 of investment from Lord Sugar after winning the seventh series of the BBC One show, and said he put his success down to everything he learnt during his University of Bath course.
