Teacher from Bristol area charged with child sex abuse

A teacher from a school in Weston-super-Mare has appeared in court charged with sexually abusing a child.

The man from the Bristol area was arrested on Monday after a pupil raised concerns with their parents.

He faces two counts of sexual activity with a child under 13. He was also charged with two counts of adult abuse of a position of trust.

He appeared before North Somerset magistrates and was remanded in custody until next Wednesday.

BBC News understands that Avon and Somerset Police are examining about 20 computer memory sticks.

Officers have set up an incident room for concerned parents but say they believe this is an isolated case.
