Special-shape display launches Bristol's kite festival

A number of specially-shaped kites have been been flown in Bristol to launch the city's kite festival.

The event, which is due to take place on Saturday and Sunday at Ashton Court, is marking its 25th year.

The Bristol International Kite Festival attracts participants from places as far afield as New Zealand, the Caribbean and the US.

Organisers say the event will include kite-fighting battles, routines flown to music, and air sculptures.

The festival also celebrates 100 years of aviation in the West of England.

Thursday's press launch took part on The Downs in Bristol.
