Birmingham binmen to stage two strike days

Binmen and street cleaners in Birmingham are to hold two days of industrial action.

The dispute with the city council is around pay and conditions and workers plan to strike on the morning of 11 and 15 August.

Talks with unions will continue but a spokesman for the council said there will be some disruption to services.

Residents are still asked to put rubbish out but it may not be collected.

The strikes follow workers taking two hours of industrial action last month.

A council spokesman said: "Despite continued talks with representatives from Unite which have seen some significant movement in negotiations, we have still not be able at this point to reach an agreement over issues that have been raised about terms and conditions for refuse collection staff."
