Second man charged with murder following Sparkbrook violence

A second man has appeared before magistrates charged with murder after a fatal stabbing in the Sparkbrook area of Birmingham.

Khalid Jan, 23, from Sparkbrook, was remanded in custody to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on 15 July.

Ikram Ullah Khan, 28, known locally as Ikram Elahi, was stabbed in the neck in the Stratford Road area on 2 July.

Another man, 22-year-old Naweed Bashardost of Alum Rock, also faces a murder charge.

'Devoted father'

Mr Khan was one of three people seriously injured when violence broke out in Sparkbrook.

He died at hospital from his wounds. The other two are continuing to receive treatment.

His family described him as a family man and said: "He inspired the best out of others, he had a caring devotion for others and always went out of his way to help whenever he was able to do so.

"Ikram was a devoted father to his four children and was a loved family member."

A total of 11 people have been arrested in connection with the disorder.
