Man charged with murder following Sparkbrook violence

A man has appeared in court charged with murder after a fatal stabbing during violence that broke out in Sparkbrook in Birmingham.

Ikram Ullah Khan, 28, known locally as Ikram Elahi, was stabbed in the neck in the Stratford Road area on 2 July.

Naweed Bashardost, 22, of Alum Rock, was remanded in custody to appear at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday.

As well as Mr Khan, two other people were injured in the disturbance; one was slashed, while the other was shot.

Afghanistan-born Mr Bashardost, of St Saviour's Road, was charged on Tuesday night and appeared before magistrates in the city on Wednesday morning.

A total of 11 people have been arrested in connection with the disorder.

Four men arrested on suspicion of attempted murder have since been released on police bail, while another four arrested on suspicion of murder were later released without charge, but remain on bail in connection with a separate disorder.
