Birmingham man charged with murdering wife appears in court

A man has appeared in court charged with murdering his ex-wife and attempting to murder two children.

Andrew Leigh, 42, from Sutton Coldfield, appeared at Birmingham Magistrates' Court.

He is charged with murdering Luan Leigh, 42, and the attempted murder of two children who cannot be named for legal reasons.

Ms Leigh was confirmed dead by paramedics at her home in Pype Hayes, Birmingham, at 07:30 BST on Sunday.

A post-mortem examination found she had died of compression to the neck.

Mr Leigh spoke only to confirm his name and address during the three-minute hearing.

He was remanded in custody by magistrates and will reappear at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday.
